Thank you to everyone that has sent in bug reports and feature requests. They have been really helpful to the development of this script.

After a lot of consideration and due to the popularity of the script, I’ve decided to charge a small amount for commercial use. The beta version is still completely free, but the final version is not. This way I’ll be able to devote more time to this project and ensure that I can add some cool features. Thank you to everyone that chooses to support me.

There are now two versions of Nested Layer Manager, Free and Pro:

It has been completely re-written compared to version 1, which ended up being an internal version at Burrows.

Nested Layer Manager v2 provides the ability to nest layers in 3ds Max. This script is small, fast and allows layers to be nested in an unlimited number of folders. It has complete 2 way communication with the default layer manager; If anything is altered in either, both layer managers are updated. This allows people without this script installed to still see the normal layer organisation present in the file.

Hope you enjoy it, and please do let me know if you find any bugs or have a feature request.

Recently I graduated from Staffordshire University with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Digital Film and 3D Animation Technology. After graduating I was offered a job at Framestore CFC as a runner, and during this time I met some incredibly talented artists working on magical films such as Harry Potter (Apologies for the awful pun). After chatting to a few seniors I was given the opportunity to test my tracking skills for the 3rd Narnia film they were currently working on. The shot was approved and is now in the film! (All two seconds of a background character… but still pretty cool)

While I absolutely loved working at Framestore, being a runner was not exactly the job I had aspired to be doing, so I sent out a few applications to some local companies, and was offered a job at Burrows. I have now been working there for 6 months and have really enjoyed the laid back and friendly atmosphere. (Not to mention the dual quad core, 16gb ram workstation!) Burrows mainly works on car advertising, so expect a few car renders appearing on this site soon!

Moving into the working world has been a really fun and enjoyable experience, and I wish everyone reading this who is currenly studying CGI related courses has a very similar experience.

Thanks for reading.
